N.B.: Start date = 0.0.0.0.0 4 Ahau 8 Cumku = 11 Aug -3113. This is the same as 13.0.0.0.0 4 Ahau 8 Cumhu, which is the same as 11 Aug 3114 BC

SEE BOTTOM OF PAGE FOR CALCULATING DATES BEFORE 11 Aug 3114 BC

(Note on BC dates: There is no year zero in the Gregorian calendar, and year 1AD is preceded by year 1BC. In the system used here, 1BC is represented by year 0, so 2 BC = year -1; 3BC = year -2, etc. So, for BC dates, use minus sign and subtract a year).

Note on calculating dates before "base date" 11 August 3114 BC (584283 correlation) = 11 August year -3113: tzolkin dates, haab dates katuns, tuns, uinals and days are accurate from 11 Aug -3113 backwards, but for the baktuns, a conversion must be done. The baktuns are measured in the opposite direction - i.e. number of the baktun before base date, so the first 400 tuns before 13.0.0.0.0, 4 Ahau 8 Cumku is called baktun -1; the next 400 tuns: baktun -2, etc. Examples: End of the baktun before 13.0.0.0.0. Find Maya date for 8th May 3508 BC. Method: Enter date into calculator - use a minus sign on the year and subtract 1: -3507 May 8. Result: -1.0.0.0.0 18 Mol 5 Ahau. Convert baktuns: subtract baktun number using its minus sign, from 20: 20 -1 =19. So the date equates to PREVIOUS PICTUN 19.0.0.0.0, 5 Ahau 18 Mol. This is quite different from CURRENT PICTUN 19.0.0.0.0 11 Ahau 8 Pax, which is 11th July 4378 AD. Various calculators would show our date differently, as below:
