BIKE OF THE YEAR: ISR-HEDLUND:
SOURCE VIDEO For an even crisper full-size awesome effect
13 Nov 2022
"In the next issue of MCM Classic, you can read Manfred's fat article about the absolute most brutal cafe racer that ever walked this earth. Maybe that's a somewhat subjective statement, but it's a Hedlund V-twin in an ISR frame anyway. We don't intend to reveal much more than that, but anyone who doesn't buy the magazine to read about the bike will be missing out on a serious piece of Swedish motorbike history. Yesterday, the builder, Anders Håkansson got to meet the men who made this build possible. Acke Rising from ISR and Nisse Hedlund." "
This month's Vincent of the Month is no Vincent, but another bike that came, was seen and impressed us at Scandinavian Vincent Rally at Sjögestad Motell. Those of us who knew what Anders H was hiding at home in the garage have very clearly pointed out to him that it was compulsory to get that bike to the meeting. Those who had been involved in the construction of this very unique ISR-Hedlund, were motor geniuses Nisse Hedlund and frame genius Acke Rising (ISR) and then Anders has put it all together into a well working and well-sounding bike.1000 cc V-twin with overhead cams (OHC). Two Dell'Orto 40 mm carburetors. 35 mm Ceriani front fork and Öhlin's at the rear. Fontana 250 front brake and Triumph Trident rear brake.
Since Hedlund designed the engine with sidecar cross in mind, the entire bike is very light, only 185 kg fully fueled."

TRIUMPH-JAP PROJECT
"JAP V twin 8HP 1000 side valve 1918 Great condition with cone clutch (Morgan Three wheeler). A sturmey Archer cs 3 speed Tooth cum belt with clutch , a very rare set of druid forks circa 1925 ( ex George Cohen) and a Triumph Model P frame needing work (no Docs) There is also a Brough Superior timing chain cover for Matchless engine SS100 SS80"
THE GRIFFUN (BSA-AJS or JABASS)
"The late Dave Griffiths, chairman of the Kings Norton Motorcycle Club and the Griff'Un. He wanted a big British V twin, and had missed the time when Vincents were cheap, due to him being young, married and broke. Later in life, when Vinnies had become too expensive for him yet again, he decided to build a bike of his own. "
"The tattered rags of memory tell me the tank was a thrown out Ambassador 2 stroke item, with Dave's welding skills permitting invisibly inserted panels to increase the size. The BSA frame was (this shows you how long ago it was) bought at a club bring'n'buy, for the price, risible even then, of 10p. The rest of the bike is an agglomeration of the British industry's finest parts bins and scrapyards, with the engine being an early 1930s 1,000cc AJS sidevalve. I followed it one night on a club ride, it had a V twin sound, but not like HD or Vincent, it was it's own animal." Thanks to Maxx England.

JABSA 980
JABSA for sale at Andy Tiernan's site:
"Price now drastically slashed to £11,500 from £16,750. We are offering this machine on behalf of the owner who has decided to reduce the price to fund his latest project. This beautifully engineered special was created used a 1944 BSA WM20 frame & a 1929 JAP KT 980cc engine. The frame was modified by Pete Thompson to accept the JAP engine. From the documentation with the bike we know that the engine was previously used in a Morgan three wheeler & was purchased for this project at the Bonhams (VMCC Banbury Run) Auction is 2012. Paperwork indicates that the work was carried out mainly in 2012/2013. Comes with the latest DVLA V5C registration document, is registered under the 'Historic Vehicle' class for free road tax & is MOT exempt." https://andybuysbikes.com/bikeshtml/07966bsa.html?fbclid=IwAR0ozP-00NKJXM3e00DbuWo87x8KlkQ5c84hLaRbxt6fxXdhmTLeOLsxUnQ#

WHAT THE......?
Confused? This appeared at an auction sale in the UK recently. I phoned the auction for details and was informed that this is a "mock-up" and not a functioning engine.
1930 AJS REPLICA:
RICHARD JOHNS has been in touch to let us know about his incredible one-off machine based on the AJS 1929/1930 1000cc overhead camshaft sprinter that was made to try and break the world speed record. The original is in the National Motorcycle Museum (UK). He has just finished it and it took 3 and a half years and 3500 hours of work! Richard says:
"For mine, I used Velocette Mk 1 OHC cylinders/head/cam boxes / Ducati pistons / HD Evo con-rods and made the rest of the engine from scratch. The internals are pretty well identical to the original chain-driven camshaft. I think the original naturally-aspirated incarnation looks better than the supercharged one that came later, so that's what I built....I decided to start a blog about this bike and some of my other builds when lockdown started last year www.vintageajs.uk . It's in excruciating detail so I can only assume that the folks that visit my site - and there are plenty, are either V-Twin nuts or suffer from insomnia. The engine and gearbox are in a road-registered 1931 AJS SB8 chassis and I'll start road testing soon"
Richard wasn't joking about the detail on his website! It will keep you busy for a while and answer all your questions: WWW.VINTAGEAJS.UK UPDATE: THERE IS NOW A BRAND NEW INDEX PAGE for the v-twin:WWW.VINTAGEAJS.UK
(Chronologically, the posts start in May 2020 HERE with the restoration of a 350cc AJS K7. Following this, in June 2020 Richard starts his AJcette project, in which he converts his sidevalve AJS 350 to overhead camshaft. The AJcette project starts HERE. Next, in August 2020, Richard starts a project of fitting a supercharger to his 1934 MG vintage car, HERE . This is followed by the final post on the AJcette project HERE. Then, in September 2020 comes the first post in the AJS V-twin Project. It is HERE. )
