DOHC MOTOSACOCHE REPLICA: It was present at Montlhery in May. The last one disappeared 50 years ago... someone has built this engine from scratch. Bravo!

Gustavo Salvador's 688cc SALVADOR ISARD is now completed!
Here are two Salvador videos of the bike:

MAL 800 Mk.2: Gustavo is now building an improved version of his MAL 800 v-twin engine... compare the original to the new version - it now has alloy cylinders and a slimmer timing cover:
TRAKTOR T40: Victor Sinelnikov (Youtube name: Viktor Fober) who lives in a village in the Stavropol region of Russia is the builder of the T40 TRAKTOR bike that you saw on V-Twin News p.19, which has the top ends from a huge tractor engine. Since those photographs were taken of the 2077cc bike,Viktor machined the huge crowns off the tractor pistons and sculpted the sides of the piston skirts. Then a con-rod snapped off and the rest went L-shaped, wrecking the pistons. After rebuilding, a con-rod got mangled when a gudgeon pin slipped out. The steel rods were then replaced with longer handmade alloy con-rods. The pistons were changed for even lighter ones. The turbo arrangement was abandoned. The cams were swopped for a longer duration set.
Viktor built the bike because he was unsatisfied with all available motorcycle engines, so decided to build his own from scratch. The cylinder heads are aluminium alloy, but most of the engine is made from steel plate! The compression ratio was increased from 9:1 to 10:1. However, this caused 'detonation' due to the poor quality petrol (gasoline) in Russia, so the compression ratio had to be reduced again. The gearbox destroyed itself, so Victor built his own gearbox.
Viktor says:
"Fully self-made motorcycle, 99% consists of components made in the "carpentry workshop." Engine : 2-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled + forced water-cooled cylinder head. Volume 2000 cc Cylinder head, camshaft, crankshaft, crankcase, intake and exhaust system, ignition system, cooling system, lubrication. Motorcycle frame, wheel discs are made according to own drawings, without using factory power." In 2013: "New head and box, air-cooling cooling. self-made motorcycle with a self-made two-liter engine. Piston group from tractor T 40. Piston stroke 120 mm diameter 105 mm. Maximum speed of 180 km (113 mph) per hour at 4080 rpm."

THE MEGALODON:
Following on from the lessons learned with the TRAKTOR T40, Viktor has been working on another project - again, with steel crankcases, and this time, handmade steel heads and barrels. It is a 90-degree v-twin displacing 2400cc with water-cooling. The bore is 130mm (yes, 13cm!) and the stroke is 90mm.The compression ratio is 10:1, with 4 valves per cylinder. The valves are from the Volga 24 10 - a Russian 2.5 litre in-line four-cylinder car. It has 36mm carburettors from a Suzuki.

Viktor's Youtube Channel has about 60 videos - most are about the Megalodon build and about 29 are on the T40
"T40 YOUNGER BROTHER": One of Viktor's videos shows a transverse v-twin made with Dnepr top ends ....could it be this, on Mikhail Chaplygin's page, is the same engine being constucted? ...and here is MotoMetalMind's inline v-twin Dnepr project:

IN MEMORIAM:
During the first week of May 2019, Bill Higginson tragically died from injuries sustained in an accident while driving his Morgan. Bill built the stunning NORTON SUPERIOR, featuring a beautiful replica Matchless 1000cc MX2 engine. Here are some lovely pictures of it, taken by its new owner, Paul Miles. This to me is one of the best v-twin specials ever. Bill is a legend and will be greatly missed.
Keith Shoemark's project to convert his 'Gnarley Davidson' into a Brough Superior lookalike - the "ROUGHLY SIMILAR":
1. Take one Sportster.................................................2. Make special tank caps......................3. insert into specially modified Honda tank............4. Fit the new-old tank........................................................5. Make castle-style forks.............
...6. Make and fit Brough-style rocker-box covers; disguise Sportster gearbox with a Triumph gearbox cover turned 90 degrees; disguise Sportster timing cover with a fake magdyno that actually contains a modern voltage
regulator and ignition coil... 7. and continue...
...and Keith also supplied these pics of his Yamaha flat tracker, which he made to finance his trip to NZ to visit his old mate Chris Knibbs - the master v-twin special builder who created the 3000cc FLYING KNIBBS above, and...

Doug Fraser's latest BSA v-twin. He calls it a "Continuation BSA" but is also called an E120S - a road version of his E120R racing machine - ( a 1200cc DOHC 4-cam engine with Goldstar inspired top ends)... This version is the S model, which stands for 'Sport'... It is a 75-degree air-cooled v-twin with 4 valves per cylinder... see article in Old Bike Australasia, linked below.
