If you are interested in precession, check out the Sirius Research Group's site. Their page on the Maya is badly researched, with no references, but the Egyptian material is very interesting. They present the possibility that the precessional cycle does not actually exist as a slow rotation of the Earth's axis, but the phenomena we interpret as that movement actually represents the movement of our solar system around another centre - Sirius; includes feedback from astronomers. http://www.siriusresearchgroup.com/
